Kali of the Himalaya draws inspiration from the Hindu goddess, Kali, who was manifested to battle demons and is most often depicted with four arms. One of her skirts is comprised of arms strung together, and is the primary influence of this design. But these gruesome images are only half of Kali. She only ever kills demons and is mainly charged with keeping the ego at bay. The jacket and swatch collection are a testament to overcoming demons. The Kali River is also very significant in India, as are all water ways leading to the Ganges. This river, in tandem with Himalayas as a backdrop, inform the quilt. In another piece honoring struggle and perseverance, the Seven Summits quilt is hand-dyed and sewn.
